About this app
Can I Cast It? answers the question every UK angler asks before setting off: can I actually fish here, and what do I need? Public and semi-public water — rivers, canals and drains — has fragmented ownership, unclear permissions and no bankside signage. This app puts 5,742 fishing venues, 1,997 angling clubs and 1,424 tackle shops on a single map, with the access rules for each one. WHAT THE MAP TELLS YOU Every venue carries a colour-coded access marker: • Green — public or free access • Amber — permit or day ticket required • Navy — club members only • Red — private, no access Tap any marker for the detail: target species, discipline (coarse, game or sea), water type, size, permit arrangements, facilities and contact details for whoever controls the water. FIND WATER THAT SUITS YOU • Search venues, tackle shops, angling clubs and named canals • Filter by access level, species, water type and discipline • Jump to a county, or centre the map on where you are • Canal & River Trust canal lines, reservoirs and bridges drawn on the map KEEP YOUR OWN RECORDS • Save venues you want to come back to • Drop private spots only you can see, with photos and notes • Keep bankside notes against any venue • Track your EA rod licence and see at a glance when it expires BUILT FOR THE BANK Every venue, club and shop is stored inside the app, so the map and all the detail still work when the signal drops. There is no account and no sign-up — your notes, spots and licences stay on your phone. FREE AND PRO The map, access status, species data, permit detail, search, filters and the rod licence tracker are all free, forever. Can I Cast It? Pro raises your saved venues from 3 to 10 and your private spots from 3 to 10, and removes the local tackle shop card. IMPORTANT Whatever colour a marker is, you always need a valid Environment Agency rod licence to fish with a rod and line in England and Wales. Access information is a guide gathered from public sources — always confirm with the club, owner or fishery before you fish.
