About this app
Your body is tired. Your head will not stop. Sleep Switch is the app for that gap. You can't sleep, you have already tried lying still, and one more article will not help. So this app does not give you an article. It gives you the relaxation exercises for sleep that sit behind the question how to fall asleep fast — spoken, with the counting done for you. No promise about tonight. Just the drill. No sound library to browse. No sleep score in the morning. You pick a technique, close your eyes, and a quiet voice walks you through until you are gone. NINE GUIDED TECHNIQUES • Picture Small Things — cognitive shuffling for sleep. It is guided imagery for sleep with the images chosen for you: a voice names one ordinary object. 478 different prompts, and it remembers what it just said, so the words do not loop back on you after five minutes. • Relax Your Body — the military sleep method, as a drill instead of an article. Face, shoulders, arms, chest, legs, then the mind. • Calm Breaths — the 4-7-8 breathing method for sleep, counted for you. In for four, hold for seven, out for eight, so you are not watching a clock. • Soft Exhale — a longer breath out than in, for nights when the 478 breathing technique is too much work. • Even Breathing — resonance breathing at one steady, slow pace, for when the 4-7-8 breath method is too much counting. • Counting Breaths — the oldest. Count, lose your place, begin again. • Body Scan — a body scan meditation for sleep, the bedtime meditation most people mean: attention moving from scalp to feet. • Deep Rest — a yoga nidra sleep meditation, sometimes called non-sleep deep rest. Long, still, for when you have time to spare. • Don't Try to Sleep — paradoxical intention. Used in sleep therapy, and it is exactly what it sounds like. AND FOR 3AM Still awake an hour later? "What to do now" is the one screen that tells you to get out of bed and put the phone down, because past a point that is the honest answer, not an app. BUILT FOR EYES CLOSED • Optional vibration on the breath cues, so you can follow them with the phone face down. The strength is adjustable — a phone on your chest under a duvet feels nothing like one in the hand. • Nine voices to choose from, or no voice at all. • Six night backgrounds — spring rain, forest night, birds at night, moonlit hours, pink noise, ambient night — under the guidance or alone. • When a session ends, the screen goes dark by itself. No lit phone next to your face. • Every drill runs offline. Airplane mode is fine. • No ads. Not one, anywhere, ever. IF YOU CAME FOR SLEEP SOUNDS There are sleep sounds in here — rain, forest, birds, pink noise — and they play on their own if that is all you want tonight. They are the background, not the app. Deep Rest is the closest thing to a sleep meditation; everything else is a drill with a voice, a shape and an end. HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT IS Every technique carries a label saying how well studied it is — "well studied", "one controlled study", "traditional practice". No claim is made about curing anything. These are wind-down exercises, not a medical device, and weeks of bad nights are a conversation for a doctor. Your ratings and the words you picture stay on this phone. The reminder server is told three numbers and nothing else, and Settings prints them for you to read. FREE, AND WHAT IS NOT Eight of the nine are free, up to fifteen minutes each, every voice and background included. Sleep Plus adds longer sessions and Deep Rest. And nothing is ever sold to you between 2am and 5am — open this app at three in the morning and you get the drill, not a paywall. Sleep Switch is for the night your head is too loud: cognitive shuffling, the military sleep technique, breathing exercises including 478 breathing, body scan, and a plan for when you are awake at 3am. If insomnia is the word you used to find this, these are the relaxation techniques for sleep that sit behind the usual advice, run as drills instead of reading.
